The RNIB Newsagent audio task should be running. To find an online audio publication from RNIB Newsagent to listen to, you need to move the focus to the Library control if you are not already there. To do that, press the 'Focus' [Tab] (3) key.
Press the 'Left' [left arrow] (4) key a few times until you hear a beep and a message indicating that you are at the top level (level 0) of the tree. The focus is on the 'RNIB Newsagent audio' directory. Press the 'Right' [right arrow] (6) key and you are placed in the 'Newsagent for streaming' directory. This directory represents the remote RNIB Newsagent website which you cannot access without configuring the username and password given to you by RNIB Newsagent if you are a subscriber. Subscription to RNIB Newsagent is available to blind users for a modest annual fee. (The username and password you need to obtain from RNIB Newsagent to enable you to read Audio publications are those used for the Audio Download Service.) The RNIB Newsagent website is here
Setting SpeakOn to use the RNIB Newsagent Audio Download Service username and password is explained in a separate page in this section; do this before you go further.
The 'Newsagent for streaming' directory contains two directories called 'By categories' and 'By alphabetic order' which are self-explanatory. The first directory contains all the categories of audio publications available. Each category directory contains a number of publications belonging to that category.
For example to find the 'Economist' publication, use the 'Right' key to move from the 'Newsagent for streaming' directory to the 'By categories' and then to the 'Politics and Economics' category directory. Use the 'Right' key again and you are placed on the first publication available for this category. Use the 'Up' and 'Down' keys to find the Economist.
To start playing (listening to) this magazine, press the 'Select' [Enter] (5) key. The focus moves automatically to the Player control. The Player starts to play the magazine. To stop listening, press the 'Select' key again.
Usually there are two issues of the same publication title stored on the RNIB Newsagent web site. Each publication is divided into usually two and sometimes four parts. Each part in turn is divided into articles.
The only navigation unit available for streamed audio is the media navigation unit which is set by default; by pressing the 'Up' and 'Down' keys you can switch between the articles within a publication part described above.
If you listen to a particular publication regularly you can add it to the Favourites directory in the library so you can find it more quickly as follows:
In the library's 'Publication for streaming' directory, navigate to the publication required.
Press 'Menu' to bring up the Main menu and select:
File > Add publication to favourites
The publication was added to the Favourites directory which is located under the RNIB Newsagent audio directory and you can navigate it in the usual way.
To delete a publication from the Favourites directory do the following:
In the library's Favourites directory, navigate to the publication you want to delete.
Press 'Menu' to bring up the Main menu and select:
File > Delete publication from favourites
If you navigate the Favourites directory you will find that the publication was deleted.
