Reading a RNIB Newsagent eText television or radio guide

RNIB Newsagent (known previously as NTNM) provide two types of eText publications; newspapers / magazines and television / radio network guides. This page describes how to read television / radio guides which can be found in the Library under the Newsagent directory:
Newsagent > Magazines by category > Television and Radio

From February 2016 new types of guides known as XL were introduced with improved information and accuracy. At the time of updating this manual, The old style of guide were still provided and SpeakOn MediaSuite supports both.

Downloading and reading of guides is exactly the same as any newspaper or magazine described in a previous page and will not be repeated here. Level hierarchy, however, is specific to guides.

In XL guides, level 1 represents a major section; the guide itself, Sunset and sunrise times, frequencies, copyright, etc.

In the guide section of the publication, level 2 represents the days of the week such as Monday, Tuesday etc. Level 3 represents a television channel or radio station; for example BBC 1, BBC 2 etc. Level 4 represents a part of the day; for example, morning, afternoon etc.

Each part of the day is divided into paragraphs; each paragraph represents a program at a particular time.

Start navigating the guide by choosing the Level 1 navigation unit using the Left and Right keys. With the Up and Down keys, move to the guide section of the publication. Then choose the Level 2 navigation unit using the Left and Right keys. With the Up and Down keys, move to the day of the week required. Choose the Level 3 navigation unit. Move down or up for the required channel or station. Similarly with the level 4 navigation unit, move to the required part of the day. Choose the Paragraph navigation unit and move down or up to select the program required.

Alternatively, you can read sequentially through the entire publication by choosing the 'All levels' navigation unit.

Restricting guides to the channels or stations required

For each of the guides provided, you can restrict the channels / stations to those of relevance to you with
