Including your books in the Library

The Audio Books task enables you to listen to your audio books stored in a folder. If you want to listen to your books on a CD, use the CD task instead which is explained in
here

The books formats supported are DAISY and compressed (MP3 WMA etc).

It is assumed that your books are stored in folders; make sure that each of your DAISY or compressed (MP3, WMA etc) books is contained in its own separate folder. If you copy DAISY books to a folder, make sure that all files are copied, not just the MP3 files; all files are important to realize a complete DAISY book.

To be able to listen to books, your book folders must be included and visible in the Library.

The Audio Books directory is associated by default with a folder location on your computer. This means that any files you store in this default folder are visible in the Audio Books directory in the Library.

There are two options; you can either add existing books' file folders locations to the Audio Books directory or you can copy your books' files to the default folder location mentioned above.

1. Adding existing books' folder locations to the Library

This setting is only available when the focus is on the Library.

The folder locations are added to the Library's Audio Books directory. This is the most versatile option; you can add as many folder locations to the Library as you like. These folders are not affected by SpeakOn and you can use the same folders with other players as well if you wish.

The folder you add can be a folder on your computer, or a folder that appears on your computer as part of a device connected to it; for example, a USB device such an external drive. (Note that in the case of an external device, make sure that after connection it always maps to the same drive otherwise this method will not work.)

The folder you add can also be a folder on your computer which represents a Cloud storage service such as OneDrive or DropBox. This way, you can listen to your audio books stored in this Cloud storage service in SpeakOn.

To add a folder location, press the 'Menu' [Alt] (9) key to bring up the Main menu. Select Settings > Library Audio Books - add or remove folder locations.

The Library Directory Manager task starts. The Library Directory Manager task has two controls; the Folder Locations list and the Folders Tree. The Folder Locations list contains the folder locations you have already specified for any book folders you have added. The Folders Tree presents a tree view of the folders available on your computer.

You can add any folder above the one that contains your book files. For example, if you have the following folder structure:

C:\Folder 1\Folder 2\Folder 3\book files

You can add Folder 1 or Folder 2 (but not Folder 3). Say that you want to add Folder 1 location, navigate the tree and find Folder 1 on your computer. Press the 'Select' [Enter] (5) key to add the folder to the Audio books directory; you can add as many folders as you like and these are shown in the Folder Locations list control.

If you make a mistake, to remove a folder location, in the Folder Locations list control locate the folder location you want to remove and Select the 'Remove folder location' item in the Main menu.

Once you have finished adding the folders, select the 'OK end task, return to Manager' menu item from the Main menu. The Books task is ended and you are placed in the Manager task. Start it again and you will find the folders you added in the Audio books media directory in the Library; any changes you make to these folders such as adding or removing book files are reflected automatically in the Audio books directory in the Library.

Note that the folders you add must have different names; for example, if you have a folder called C:\My Books and another one called D:\My Books it will not work; simply rename one of the folders before you add it to the Library.

2. Copying your books' files to the default folder

If you prefer, you can copy your books' files to the default Library Books folder which is at:

Windows Vista Seven and Eight
C:\users\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\Audio_Books
Windows XP
C:\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\Audio_Books

This option may suit those who have not already started a books collection and do not wish to share their books with another player.

Note: you can use the options one or two above but not both - for maximum flexibility, option one is recommended.
