RNIB Newsagent eText conversion settings

Before you convert RNIB Newsagent eText publications for the first time, you need to configure these settings which you will usually have to do only once.

To create the folders required, you need to run the conversion utility once without any publications to convert. The conversion utility can be run from the RNIB Newsagent eText task Main menu:
Download > Convert publication

You will find three folders on your computer file system (relevant to these settings) under:

Windows Vista Seven and Eight
C:\users\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\RNIB_Newsagent_eText
Windows XP
C:\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\RNIB_Newsagent_eText

These folders are:

To perform the settings required, bring up the Main menu and navigate to:
Settings > RNIB Newsagent eText file conversion

This sub-menu in turn gives you the following options:

- Clean publication
This option, which is checked by default, indicates that the publication should be cleaned before the SpeakOn player is loaded or HTML conversion takes place. Cleaning a publication includes removing articles of single line length which are usually meaningless, removing teasers which are references to other articles and therefore usually serve little purpose and removing some promotion articles. Uncheck this option if you want to read publications in their original state.

- Restructure publication
This option, which is checked by default, indicates that the publication should be restructured before the SpeakOn player is loaded or HTML conversion takes place. Restructuring a publication includes dividing a publication into its original sections if possible and collating all the sections together. This means that a publication is not in its original layout but page information is still available. Restructuring is useful with the National and Regional newspapers derived automatically by RNIB Newsagent but has no effect on the magazines which are transcribed manually and are well structured in their original form.

- Convert to HTML and place in the Publications_converted folder
This option, which is unchecked by default, is intended for those who want to read RNIB Newsagent eText publications on their portable players, taking advantage of cleaning, restructuring and guide customization. HTML is supported by many players such as the Stream and mobile phones. The files converted are always placed in:

Windows Vista Seven and Eight
C:\users\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\RNIB_Newsagent_eText\Publications_converted
Windows XP
C:\yourusername\My_SpeakOn_Media\RNIB_Newsagent_eText\Publications_converted

If the HTML conversion option is checked, HTML conversion occurs each time the conversion utility is selected from the menu:
Download > Convert publication
Conversion also occurs after downloading a publication from the Newsagent or Favourites directories; when the publication required has the focus, press:
[Ctrl + Shift + Enter] to download the publication. Conversion to HTML if selected starts after a publication is downloaded.

Note that HTML conversion is only useful if you check either the cleaning or restructuring options or have customized your guides. Otherwise use the original HTML format provided by RNIB Newsagent.

If the HTML conversion option is unchecked, the publication is downloaded and placed in the Current Reading directory in the Library ready to be read in the SpeakOn player.

Select from the conversion options outlined above. Note that after each selection, the Main menu closes and you will need to bring it up again if you want to select more options
