CD - Audio, MP3 and DAISY

The CD media direcctory enables you to listen to Audio, compressed files such as MP3, WMA, etc, as well as DAISY format books. There are no sub-directories in this directory; there is only one DAISY book available - the one in the root of your CD drive.

formats supported

DAISY support - this is not a complete implementation of the DAISY standard but rather a practical implementation of the Audio DAISY 2.02 format such as the one used by RNIB in the UK and others. Multiple DAISY books on one CD are supported but DAISY books which span more than one CD are not supported yet. Some DAISY books, mainly distributed in North America, are protected by DRM; DRM is not supported by SpeakOn.

DAISY format version 2.02 book is identified by the ncc.html file.

Settings

DAISY books are detected if a DAISY CD is inserted in one of the CD drives of your computer. This is the default behaviour which will suit most users. In some situations, you may like SpeakOn to look somewhere else in your computer folder structure for DAISY books. To enable this you will need to edit a simple configuration file. To change this setting, do the following:

First navigate to the user settings folder:
Windows Vista Seven and Eight
C:\users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\SpeakOn\MediaSuite
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\SpeakOn\MediaSuite

Then using a text editor, open the file:

\app\CD\CD\config\config.txt

You will find in this file a settings entry as follows: directory=tc.cd.dirWherethe{tc.cd.dir} is set by default to
none
This entry tells SpeakOn to detect automatically a CD drive on your computer which contains a DAISY book in its root folder. Modify the directory value to the path of your DAISY book folder; for example, if your book is in your drive 'E' and is located in a folder called 'my_books' the new entry will be:

directory=E:/my_books

Note that only forward slashes '/' are allowed in SpeakOn's configuration files.

Save the file.
