Listening to CD MP3 audio books and music

This page describes how to use CDs containing MP3 files. These files may contain any audio material but this is usually music tracks or books. Please note that only MP3 files which are located in the root folder of the CD are detected. All other types of files or sub folders are ignored.

The CD task should be running. To listen to CD MP3 media, insert an appropriate CD in your computer CD drive.

Move the focus to the Library media tree control if you are not already there by pressing the 'Focus' [Tab] (3) key. In the Library control, press the 'Left' [left arrow] (4) key a few times until you hear a beep and a message indicating that you are at the top level (level 0) of the tree. The focus is on the CD media directory. Press the 'Right' [right arrow] (6) key, the format of the CD is detected automatically and you are placed at the only item in this directory, the MP3 playlist. A 'playlist' means any collection of MP3 files (called tracks) contained on the CD you have inserted into your CD drive. These can be individual music songs or part of a book. Please note that the last operation may take a few seconds while the CD drive starts to spin.

To start to listen to the playlist (music or a book), press the 'Select' [Enter] (5) key. The focus moves automatically to the Player control and the Player starts to play. To stop playing, press the 'Select' key again.

With the 'Left' and 'Right' keys, you can select the media navigation unit. You can navigate between tracks by selecting the media navigation unit and then press the 'Up' or the 'Down' keys. Similarly you can navigate within a track by selecting from the 5 minutes, 1 minute, 15 seconds or 5 seconds navigation units and move within the track by pressing the 'Up' or 'Down' keys. You can do that after playing has stopped or during playing.

If you stop listening to the CD and come back to it later, the Player will start the audio where you left off.

Bookmarks

The user can have as many bookmarks in the media as required. This operation is explained in this manual
here

Play optimization

The following is relevant mainly to audio MP3 books:

To reduce CD background noise, SpeakOn uses a method of copying book segments to the hard drive before they play. This is still the default method and works well for most books with sometimes a delay of a few seconds before a book segment starts to play.

You can eliminate any delay and CD drive background noise by preparing the book on the hard disk before starting to play and this optimization, which can take a few minutes, stays in place until you listen to another CD book. To optimize a book before reading, when the focus is on the Player in the Main menu, select:
Play > Optimize CD media to eliminate delay and drive background noise.
