Saving and opening playlists

This page describes how to save a playlist to the Library or file system and how to open a single file or playlist from the file system.

Saving a playlist to the Library or file system

The previous two pages explained how to create temporary playlists for immediate play. These temporary playlists only exist until you choose something else to play. If you wish, you can save a playlist to the SpeakOn Library so you can use it at a later date or you can save it to any folder on the file system of your computer so it is available for use with another player.

To save a playlist, do the following:

Ensure that the focus is on the Player and select from the Main menu:
File > Save to Library
or
File > Save to file system

The relevant save task opens. These save tasks work in a similar way and each contains three controls; the File Name edit control, the File Types list control and the Directories or Folders tree control. The File Name edit control is for specifying the file name; the default name of the playlist is already filled in for you; change it to any name you like. The File Types list control is for specifying the playlist format; only '.m3u' format can be saved. This format is supported by all players. The Directories or Folders tree control enables you to navigate the Library or your file system. When you have located the place where you want your playlist saved, bring up the Main menu and select Save. The task ends and the focus is placed back on the Player.

You can abort the operation at any time by bringing up the Main menu and selecting Cancel. The task ends and the focus is placed back on the Player.

Opening a single audio file or playlist located anywhere on your file system

You can open a single audio file or a playlist created by another player for use with SpeakOn by doing the following:

Ensure that the focus is on the Library's Music directory.

From the Menu select:
File > Open media file from file system

The Open media file from file system task opens. It contains three controls; the File Name edit control, the File Types list control and the Folders tree control. The File Name edit control, is for specifying the full file name path; unless you know the exact file path, leave this control empty. The File Types list control is for specifying the file format; usually you will leave this control in its default setting so that all file types are visible. The Folders tree control enables you to navigate your file system. When you have located the file to open, bring up the Main menu and select Open. The task ends and the focus moves automatically to the Player which starts to play.

You can abort the operation at any time by bringing up the Main menu and selecting Cancel. The task ends and the focus is placed back on the Library.
